Canadian Eskimo Dog Club
About The Club
Our club has been working to maintain and increase numbers within the almost extinct CED/CID. The Canadian Eskimo Dog, also known as the Canadian Inuit Dog, is a breed with a rich history deeply intertwined with indigenous peoples of Canada’s Arctic regions. With less than 500 of these dogs worldwide our Club, the CEDCNWC, is striving to breed their health, beauty, work ethics as well original look, quality and purpose of the CED/CID, to bring the CED back to life!
What We Want For The Future
Our goal for the future of the club is to ensure these beautiful dogs not only survive but thrive. We want them to once again be AKC recognized as well as recognized world wide. To ensure every litter is bred with the originality, work ethic and temperament for which it was intended.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
As a club our goal is to ensure the survival of this breed of dog known as the Canadian Eskimo/Inuit Dog. We try to ensure that people are continually educated and are aware of Canada’s oldest living Indigenous breed of dog also referred to as “Canada’s Living Legends”. Our club, the CEDCNWC, strives to breed for health, beauty, work ethics and the original look, quality and purpose of the CED/CID. It is important to keep in mind these are sledge dogs and should appear as such…muscular, hardy and able to handle the harshest weather of a Canadian Arctic Winter.
SHOW DOGS
CONFORMATION AND RAISING BREED AWARENESS
We encourage breeders near and far to work together to showcase this endangered and Indigenous breed. The CEDCNWC hosts a Regional dog show every year where you can come and see the breed participate in conformation shows. As well as get to meet breeders, fanciers and just pure CED lovers from around the world that have all come together to showcase this amazing breed.
WORKING DOGS
Sponsored Races
The Canadian Eskimo dog is renowned by mushers around the world for their strength, and fortitude, and ability to pull heavy loads. They might not "win the race" but for sure they'll "make it to the finish line". The Club encourages working these beautiful dogs which was the breeds original purpose. The club stays actively involved by sponsoring racers as well as events to promote this land race breed. In November 2022 one of our sponsored teams competed for the first time at a European Championship (Italy) with Fram and Elja in the scooter category and became bronze European champions. In 2023 Kilyan Klotsch raced in the FISTC World Championship (Czech Republic) in the 6 dog class (cart) and in the scooter class with two dogs. They achieved fourth place each and they were the only CED teams!
FAMILY DOGS
EDUCATING FAMILIES AND RAISING BREED AWARENESS
The CEDCNWC has been involved in many meet the breeds. Where you can go and meet the breed up close and personal and learn what the breed is truly like. We have many breeders who have children and CEDs in their home where they show their love and devotion for their families. As an almost extinct breed we know the Canadian Eskimo Dog will not survive solely within the working dog world without more help and inclusion from non working dog homes. These dogs did more than just work within the families of the Inuit, they were a part of the family!
